Antique Dragonware Art Deco Moriyama Rectangle Teapot / 1920s Gray Moriage
This is a spectacular antique Dragonware porcelain teapot from the 1920s. It is in a unique rectangular shape, combining traditional Japanese dragon symbolism with the geometrics of the Art Deco style. The tea pot is adorned with gorgeous thick, raised moriage dragons with blue glass beaded eyes against an airbrushed muted matte background of gray, blue, yellow, pink and white. The teapot has gold trim, handle and finial. accents of gold and there are blue enameled stylized clouds. The teapot's interior is an orange iridescent luster glaze.
The base has the red M in wreath mark, which is the mark for Moriyama Mori-Machi, not Morimura/Noritake, which many confuse it with. The mark dates it back to the late 1920s. This piece is ideal for showcasing in a prominent spot in any home and is also functional. It is a gorgeous, unique antique teapot. It is ideal for the lover of fine porcelain and moriage and dragons. This piece has been carefully stored in a pet-free and smoke free environment.
