: one 2017 Royal Dutch Mint BU 0.999 silver restrike patterned on the Lion Daalder
(the word that eventually became "dollar")
minted in 1617 in Utrecht.
Mintage is limited to 25,000 of these premium uncirculated coins worldwide.
The lion daalder was widely accepted throughout areas of the world that conducted trade with the Netherlands.  In addition to several Middle Eastern nations and many German and Italian city-states, it was also widely used in the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam, later renamed New York.
The obverse device shows a standing knight with a shield bearing the insignia of a rampant lion - found on both the Dutch and Belgian coats of arms - resting against his legs.  Around the rim is the legend MO. ARG. PRO. CONFOE. BELG., which is the abbreviated form of
Moneta Argentea Provinciarum Confoederatum Belgicarum
, which translated says, "Silver money of the Province of the Netherlands."  The letters TRA that follow represent Utrecht, the city in which the 1617 Daaldar was originally minted.
The reverse displays the same lion device in a larger size.  The legend around the rim CONFIDENS. DNO. NON. MOVETVR. stands for "Who trusts in the lord is not moved," (as DNO is the abbreviation for
Domino
, or "Lord").
These coins are produced and guaranteed by the Royal Dutch Mint, a company owned entirely by the Dutch State and since 1807 the only entity in the Netherlands authorized to strike and issue coins.
